About Us

The Research Center for Fundamental Science (Puslit SF) was established in 2011 under the name of the Study Center for Science (Pusdi), which is one of the Pusdi under the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) ITS. During the 2011-2015 Rectorate period, Pusdi Sains introduced the concept of learning for high schools in Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) under the name “STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)”. During the 2015-2019 Rectorate period, Pusdi Sains was merged with Pusdi Material and Nano Technology, becoming Pusdi Science, Material and Nano Technology. Along with the formation of the Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD), and in an effort to accommodate researchers at the “fundamental” level, in the 2020-2024 Rectorate period, the Research Center for Fundamental Science Research was formed, whose members are researchers from all departments at ITS, with the majority coming from FSAD ITS. In the 2025-2029 Rectorate period, the Fundamental Science Research Center changed to the Fundamental Science Study Center. The Fundamental Science Study Center regulates Research and Community Service.

Under the direction of the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) ITS, the Fundamental Science Center is involved in the latest scientific research and community service in all fields of fundamental science, leading to the discovery of new knowledge and the creation of new perspectives on methods and materials. Based on the results of the discovery (invention), further research is directed at creating a prototype that has high commercial value, so that the research product of the Fundamental Science Center is an innovation included in the National Research Master Plan (RIRN) 2025-2045. Therefore, the research and community service topics of the Fundamental Science Center are aligned with the current challenges and needs of Indonesia and highlight the potential of Indonesia’s resources.

The Fundamental Science Center has research members from several departments at ITS, with the majority coming from all departments at the FSAD ITS. The educational level of researchers include Masters and Doctorates with positions ranging from Assistant Professor to Full Professor with scientific fields related to the research topic.
