Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) once again demonstrated its excellence in robotics by winning multiple awards at the 2024 Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI). In this national-scale competition, ITS teams achieved remarkable success by winning six out of the seven contested categories.

One of the teams contributing to the KRI 2024 victory was the Vi-Rose Team, who secured first place in the Indonesian Art Dance Robot Contest (KRSTI) division. The team’s preparations began in March, focusing on improving the robot used in the previous year. Significant changes were made, including enhanced robot movements, such as eyes that could glance side to side and a fan that could open and close dynamically. Full preparation for the national competition took place over a month, during which the team made major modifications to the robot’s movements and costume, ensuring a grand appearance that matched the Oleg Tamulilingan Dance theme set by the committee.

The competition began with a document selection stage, followed by regional selection, where the Vi-Rose Team won 1st place, securing their spot at the national level. At the national competition, held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) from July 2-6, the Vi-Rose Team once again demonstrated their superiority by winning 1st place.
According to Yohana Magdalena Franklin Harianja, a core member of the Vi-Rose team from the Computer Engineering department, their success was due to three main factors: hard work, reliable robot components, and the development of the robot to remain stable and not fall during the competition. “Honestly, the first factor is effort, the second is the robot components, and the third is developing the robot to stay stable and not fall because this is crucial in the KRSTI division, along with the robot’s features,” said Yohana.
The Vi-Rose Team also paid close attention to judging trends. Kandias Radista Wardhana, a core team member from the Electrical Engineering department, explained that the team always adjusted their strategy based on the judges’ preferences, whether it was in terms of movements or the robot’s walking pattern. “We always pay attention to what the judges prefer, whether they evaluate movements or walking patterns more. We have to strategize, deciding whether to focus on the movements or the walking,” Kandias explained.
Looking ahead, the Vi-Rose Team plans to compete internationally. However, due to the limited number of competitions focused on traditional dance, they are also open to performing at various public events. “We are open to the public; we can perform at school events or other occasions to showcase our robot’s dance,” a team representative stated.
With this achievement, the Vi-Rose ITS Team not only proved their excellence at the national level but also reaffirmed their commitment to continue innovating and bringing honor to Indonesia on the international stage.
