Getting to Know ITS Better Through the IPITS 2024 Event

On August 6-7, 2024, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) held the Informasi Pengenalan ITS (IPITS) event to welcome new undergraduate and vocational students, including all students from the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FTEIC). This two-day event was filled with various informational and orientation sessions to help new students adapt to campus life. All activities were conducted offline in the respective department buildings.

The first day, Tuesday, August 6, 2024, began with a session titled “Introduction to ITS,” where new students were introduced to the institution, including ITS’s organizational structure, vision, and mission. This session was followed by a discussion on the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (Independent Learning-Independent Campus) policy.

In the next session, students were introduced to the educational facilities and academic administration available at ITS. ITS offers various educational programs, ranging from academic programs (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral) to vocational programs (applied bachelor’s, applied master’s) and professional programs such as architecture, engineering, and medicine. It was also explained that ITS has eight faculties and 41 departments, including FTEIC, as well as one interdisciplinary school, the School of Interdisciplinary Management and Technology (IMATECH).

Students also gained an understanding of the ITS curriculum, which includes mandatory national courses such as Religion, Pancasila, Citizenship, and Indonesian Language, as well as unique ITS courses like English, Technology-Based Entrepreneurship, and Technology Application and Digital Transformation. Additionally, information on learning plans, processes, and the 80% minimum attendance requirement for academic activities was provided.

The session continued with materials on “Student Activities, Campus Life Regulations, and Student Code of Conduct.” Following that, there was a presentation on “Sexual Harassment Prevention and Protection (PPKS) at ITS,” and the final session emphasized the importance of “Fostering a Culture of Safety and Environmental Security.”

The second day, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, opened with the session “ITS Goes Global,” which discussed ITS’s internationalization efforts and opportunities for students to participate in exchange programs. This was followed by insights into “Digital Services and Cybersecurity at ITS.” The next session focused on “Supporting Educational and Student Facilities,” including the medical center.

In addition, students were given insights into environmental issues during the session “Environmental Insights in Sustainable Development.” ITS emphasized the importance of individual contributions in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through initiatives such as the ITS Smart Eco Campus, which promotes sustainable management of water, waste, transportation, energy, and green spaces.

The IPITS event concluded with an explanation of library facilities, the medical center, and ITS’s Global Language Center (UPBG), as well as information about the “ITS Endowment Fund,” a perpetual fund whose management benefits are used to support the university’s Tri Dharma activities without depleting the principal amount.

It is hoped that the entire IPITS series will provide new students with a clear and comprehensive understanding of life at ITS, helping them navigate their studies and prepare for future challenges. (FTEIC Public Relations)
