During my student exchange program in the Institute of Biology, Uniwersytet Szczeciński, Poland, I had the opportunity to learn about molecular biology and immunology in a hands-on setting. One of the highlights of the program was the daily laboratory activities that we participated in. In the molecular biology lab, we learned techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. We also learned about DNA barcoding techniques such as RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism), AFLP (amplified fragment length polymorphism), and RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA). These techniques are commonly used in fields such as ecology, agriculture, and forensics to identify and classify different organisms.
In addition to our laboratory work, we also had the chance to go on a field trip to a national park and several lakes in Poland. It was a beautiful and serene setting, and we were able to see a variety of flora and fauna up close. We hiked through the forest, canoeing on the lakes, and even had a chance to go birdwatching.
I was also able to get involved in other youth activities through the ERASMUS student network, a student-led organization that promotes international exchange and cooperation among students. I attended language courses to improve my Polish skills, participated in sports tournaments with students from other countries, and volunteered at a local community center. These activities were a great way to meet other students and learn about different cultures.
I am extremely grateful to the European Union for providing me with the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ program and have this incredible experience. The funding provided by the European Union allowed me to fully participate in this exchange program and gain valuable skills and experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Overall, my student exchange experience in Poland was truly unforgettable. It was a great opportunity to learn about molecular biology and immunology in a hands-on setting, immerse myself in a new culture, and make new friends from all over the world. I highly recommend a student exchange program to anyone who is interested in exploring new places and learning about different fields of study.
