Konichiwa!
Let’s get acquainted with Biology Friends who are currently participating student exchange program at Kumamoto University, Sabila Fatimah (Master Student Biology ITS 2021).
The program that Sabila participated in is a program offered by the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Kumamoto University, Japan, whose information can be accessed through the official website of ITS Global Engagement (ITS GE). While participating in the program, Sabila conducted research in the laboratory under the guidance of a professor, attended lectures, and field trip activities from the JASSO Scholarship and The Consortium of Universities in Kumamoto. She also had the opportunity to become a participant in the International Symposium on “Plant-Structure Optimization” which was held on 19-20 November 2022, at the Nara Kasugano International Forum IRAKA, Nara, Japan.
Sabila’s research focus during this program was Plant Development and Interspecific Communication within biotechnology research field. Sabila gained new perspectives and experience in carrying out genetic engineering on the Arabidopsis thaliana as a plant model, analyzing gene function related to parasitic nematode infections in plants. Some of the lectures attended during the student exchange program include Current Science and Technology in Japan, which provide basic insight into various fields of science and technology and their application in solving environmental problems, especially in Japan. As well as lectures on The Origin of Science which provide insight into how science developed from ancient times to the present.
Interesting things during student exchange?
