Economic development in developing countries is not always the same as economic development in developed countries. In developed countries, economic development generally starts from the agricultural economy era, then the industrial era, then the information economy era, and then the creative economy. As for developing countries, the four wheels of the economy do not run sequentially, but run simultaneously/parallel.
This phenomenon shows that a different approach is needed to encourage the growth of the creative economy, especially product design in Indonesia, the complexity faced by the creative industry in each product design field is strongly influenced by the differences in their respective contexts. This difference in context is an important issue to be discussed by both creative industry players and academic institutions in Indonesia. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to demands for adaptation and the existence of product designs in Indonesia. The contribution of product design in Indonesia is required to be more adaptive and synergistic with the pandemic situation in Indonesia. The National Seminar on Indonesian Product Design provides an opportunity for all parties related to product design to discuss and exchange ideas with each other.
