DESIGN DECORATIVE WALL PANELS MADE FROM RECYCLED POLYSTYRENE PLASTIC WASTE MATERIALS

Every year the Indonesian people are estimated to contribute 0.48-1.29 million metric tons of plastic waste to the oceans. Among the types of waste that is wasted, Polystyrene (PS) takes more than 500 years to decompose naturally. For local producers, processing PS waste recycling requires more treatment than processing other thermoplastic waste. Based on the results of previous research, an alternative was found for processing PS recycled materials by melting 75 percent of the plastic into pieces, so that materials with interesting characteristics and more value can be produced. However, it should also be noted that this material can only be used for non-heavy duty products such as decorative wall panels. On the other hand, there is no processing of PS plastic waste recycling into a large-sized product such as wall panels as an effort to maximize the absorption of PS waste and the resulting form for these panels is less diverse
