DESIGN OF COOKING FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN AS AN EDUCATIONAL MEDIA

Abstract

In Indonesia, consumption of vegetables and fruit is still considered insufficient, especially among children. Lack of consumption of vegetables and fruit in children can cause several problems. Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research report, the majority of Indonesians consume 1-2 portions of vegetables or fruit a week. In the 5-9 age group, 67.1% of children consume 1-2 portions of vegetables or fruit a week. Meanwhile, 67.4% of the 10-14 age group consume 1-2 portions of vegetables or fruit a week. So that children increasingly like eating vegetables and fruit, several fun methods are needed that are easy for children to follow. This design has the main aim of creating a simulation so that children feel that vegetables and fruit have a delicious taste and are happy when eating vegetables and fruit and provide education about healthy food to children. To achieve this goal, research and development was carried out using related literature studies, observations, experiments and interviews. First, a literature study was carried out to understand basic concepts about children, cooking facilities, and regulations on children’s toys. Next, observations, experiments and interviews were carried out on the target age children. Observations were made to find out what fruit and vegetables were easily found in the area. Then experiments were carried out by processing vegetables and fruit using whatever methods and tools were used. Before carrying out an experiment, a figure design is made and from this figure design experiments can be carried out. After that, a design sketch of the cooking facilities is made. After the sketch has been determined, design sketches and alternative sketches can be made. From the selected sketch, a model study can be made as a reference in making a prototype. The results of the design include cooking equipment, including cutting tools, cutting boards and serving plates.
