Magetan Regency is located at the westernmost tip of East Java Province and borders directly with Central Java Province. Based on the book What and Who is Magetan, the name Magetan comes from the name of the character “Ki Ageng Mageti”, a forest ruler east of Mount Lawu. Another history states that the name Magetan comes from Javanese kromo “wagetan” which means versatile. Magetan Regency has several nicknames. First, the City of Mountain Feet. This nickname refers to its geographical location at the foot of Mount Lawu. Second, The Sunset of East Java, refers to the location of Magetan Regency at the westernmost tip of East Java Province. Finally, The Beauty of Java, refers to Magetan which has a variety of tourist attractions (natural, artificial, historical and cultural, to culinary).
The richness of Magetan Regency in its potential in the tourism, craft, plantation, and culinary sectors has made the Magetan Government and related parties continue to strive to develop it. One of them is through economic centers spread throughout Magetan Regency: Pamelo Plantation Center in Tamanan Village, Ringin Agung Bamboo Wicker Craft Center, Gandu Roast Chicken Center in Karangrejo District, Sidomukti Batik Industry Center in Plaosan District, Winong Tile Industry Center in Maospati District, and Sawo Street Leather Craft Center in Selosari Magetan.
