PRIVATE WORK SPACE WITH THE CONCEPT OF SMART WORK PODS IN PUBLIC SPACES

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the global way of working, triggering the practice of Work From Home (WFH) and the growth of coworking spaces. Despite the pandemic affecting businesses, the trend of coworking spaces in Indonesia continues to grow. Coworking spaces are considered a promising option by respondents who see it as an efficient and convenient workplace. However, observations at Koridor Coworking space found ergonomic flaws and rules that restrict users. So there are opportunities for product development, such as office pods, which can increase productivity and provide flexibility and privacy. The subject of this design is a private workspace equipped with tables, chairs, and other supporting facilities for public spaces. The design object that will be the focal point in this design is a smart work pod concept design that can be a conducive workspace in public spaces. The design flow scheme is a diagram that shows the steps and decisions to carry out a process. In this research, the design thinking method is implemented in the form of five design stages (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test). The results of observations in the Koridor Coworking space show that most existing workspaces have a less ergonomic structure. The location of the power outlet located in the center-top of the table reduces the available space, and the bottom of the table is too narrow, reducing user comfort in a sitting position. In addition, strict rules on the use of space limit individual activities and give a sense of pressure to some users. Based on these findings, several conclusions and recommendations are formulated. The design of new workstations should consider ergonomic factors to improve user comfort and productivity. Compact design and knock-down systems can be integrated to provide flexibility in room arrangement. In addition, space utilisation policies need to be further considered to create a more inclusive environment and reduce the sense of pressure felt by users.
