Eko Budi Santoso, Lic.Rer.Reg, tenaga ahli di PDPM dan Kepala Laboratorium Pengembangan Wilayah Pesisir dan Lingkungan Departemen Perencanaan Wilayah dan Perkotaan ITS, dalam penyampaian laporan akhir penyusunan Masterplan Geopark Bromo Tengger Semeru pada 5 Juli 2021 menyatakan bahwa upaya mewujudkan kawasan Bromo Tengger Semeru sebagai geopark memiliki nilai yang sangat strategis untuk menempatkan kawasan tersebut sebagai area konservasi, edukasi dan penembangan ekonomi yang bertaraf internasional.
Geopark is an area development management concept that is synergized with conservation principles and existing spatial plans in areas that have been built with pillars on aspects of conservation, education, local and regional economic value growth. The development of the Bromo Tengger Semeru area as a geopark qualifies as a Global Geopark according to UNESCO’s provisions because it has a geological heritage of international value that can be used as capital for the development of the surrounding community area in a sustainable manner based on conservation, education and the creative economy. A geopark has objectives that include protection of geodiversity & environmental conservation, preservation and promotion of earth heritage, education and research in geology, biology, preservation of local culture, and sustainable growth and development of the community’s economy through geotourism.
So far, the Bromo Tengger Semeru area is managed by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BBTN BTS) in collaboration with the surrounding local governments including Probolinggo Regency, Pasuran Regency, Malang Regency and Lumajang Regency, and has succeeded in conserving and preserving geological sites and biodiversity. there is. In the BTS Geopark master plan / master plan, both BTS BBTN and local governments remain an important element in geopark management by synergizing more broadly through parties both in the East Java Provincial government and the Central Government through the relevant ministries.
The preparation of the Bromo Tengger Semeru Geopark Masteplan by the ITS Team is an assignment from the Regional Development Planning Agency of East Java Province. In the submission of the report on the preparation of the BTS Geopark Masterplan, representatives from the central government, including: Directorate of Energy, Mineral and Mining, Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources, Bappenas RI, Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination, Kemenkomarvest RI, Assistant Deputy for Product Management Forestry and Environmental Services Kemenkomarvest RI, Deputy for Destinations and Infrastructure Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy RI, Geological Agency, and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources ESDM. From the elements of the East Java Province government, including the East Java Provincial Culture and Tourism Office, East Java Provincial Transportation Service, East Java Province Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Service, East Java Province Energy and Mineral Resources Service, East Java Provincial Forestry Service, Balai The BTS National Park and the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA). The district government elements include the Bappeda of districts around the BTS area, namely Malang Regency, Probolinggo Regency, Pasuruan Regency and Lumajang Regency.
