Rio Tria Hardhitya SST Showcases Inovboyo 2024 Award His Team Won as Third Place in the Community Category
The ITS3R team from the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (ELECTICS) ITS has achieved another milestone by winning Third Place in the Community category at Inovboyo 2024. Led by Rio Tria Hardhitya SST, the team, consisting of Rachmawati from Actuarial Science and Rifki Asrul Sani from Information Systems, introduced an innovative process to convert plastic bottle waste into multifunctional items, providing a concrete solution to environmental issues. Rio Tria Hardhitya SST explained that the numerous activities on campus have led to an accumulation of plastic bottle waste. “Most of these activities also provide bottled water in significant quantities,” he stated. Based on these findings, the ITS3R team designed an innovation to process plastic bottle waste, aiming to mitigate the harmful effects of plastic bottle waste, such as environmental contamination and ecosystem disruption.
The ITS3R team developed a recycling process that involves cleaning, shredding, and molding plastic bottle waste into plastic boards. These plastic boards can be transformed into multifunctional items like tables, chairs, souvenirs, and more. With this innovation, the ITS3R team not only helps reduce environmental pollution but also supports sustainable economies and fosters creativity. “Waste can be repurposed into new, more useful forms through processing,” added Rio Tria Hardhitya SST.

The journey of the ITS3R team to Inovboyo 2024 began in 2023, despite facing administrative hurdles. They re-registered in 2024 and successfully made it to the top 16, eventually securing Third Place in the Community category at this prestigious event. Moving forward, the ITS3R team plans to collaborate with ITS Merchandise and ITS Mart to promote their recycled products. They aim to introduce these recycled products as part of ITS’s official merchandise. The ITS3R team also plans to develop their own shredders and plastic bottle molding machines, in collaboration with the ITS Facilities and Infrastructure Bureau.

The success of the ITS3R team in securing Third Place at Inovboyo 2024 is not only a source of pride but also underscores the importance of innovation in addressing environmental challenges. Through creativity and dedication, they have demonstrated that plastic bottle waste can be transformed into valuable and useful items. “Keep innovating with what makes it interesting, and never stop developing creative ideas. Every innovation has the potential to bring positive change,” encouraged Rio Tria Hardhitya.
With this spirit, it is hoped to inspire many to not only watch but also contribute to creating innovative solutions that can make the world a better place. Keep pushing the boundaries of creativity for the greater good.
