Team Chozz’s Victory Moment at IYC GBF
Team Chozz from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), led by students from the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FT-EIC), achieved remarkable success at the International Youthpreneur Competition Ganesha Business Festival (IYC GBF) 2024. They competed in the Business Plan category, which included participants from various countries, such as Indonesia, the United States, Australia, and Canada. What began as a casual suggestion from a friend turned into an innovative business idea that took the team, led by Rafindita, a 2023 Information Systems student from FT-EIC, all the way to the final round.
Rafi, as the team leader, assembled a group of five members with complementary backgrounds, including Business Management, to ensure that their idea was backed by the necessary expertise. The biggest challenge they faced at first was coming up with an idea that aligned with the theme of Environmental Sustainability. After several discussions over two weeks, they decided to develop an organic detergent made from coconut oil and eco-enzyme.
Though they had low expectations at first, the team was surprised when their proposal advanced to the final round. In this stage, Team Chozz received mentorship from SBM ITB, which helped them refine their pitch deck and presentation strategy. The next challenge arose when the team had to create a prototype of their organic detergent. Within three to five days, they worked hard to develop the right formula. They opted for a solid detergent format for its practicality and ease of use. Another challenge was developing an effective marketing strategy, but their mentor provided valuable guidance.

After completing all the preparations, Team Chozz headed to Bandung to participate in the final pitching session, which was conducted in English. Despite feeling a bit intimidated by the more experienced participants, Team Chozz remained optimistic and delivered their best performance.
Team Chozz now aims to turn their product into a real business. Although they have concerns about managing a business independently, they plan to attend a business school organized by the FT-EIC Student Executive Board (BEM) at ITS to strengthen their skills. As Rafi expressed, “My hope for Chozz is to become an end-to-end business with natural detergent as the main product, and to be able to manage and produce raw materials independently, maybe even selling them.”
Rafi added, “Many people focus too much on innovating ideas, but ideas are abundant. Business isn’t about the idea; it’s about how we sell it. The problem is, people often innovate without understanding whether the market needs it. The key is to slowly and gradually create demand in the market.” The journey of Team Chozz demonstrates that with the right guidance and hard work, a simple idea can grow into a real business opportunity with great potential.
