Who would’ve thought that a love for cars and a passion for gaming could pave the way to a promising business? That’s exactly what Rezqy Belva Rihan Purnomo, or Egan as he’s better known, a 2022 Informatics Engineering student from Bekasi, has proven. What started as a hobby has now grown into a thriving 3D car modeling service.
“Back then, around two years ago, I used to play games like Roblox a lot. Since I’m into automotive stuff, I wanted to create my own car assets. I just learned everything from YouTube,” Egan shared during the interview. He began his self-taught journey in 3D modeling using Blender, and after honing his skills to an acceptable level, he finally had the confidence to offer his services professionally.
Egan promotes his service on Fiverr, a freelance marketplace platform. There, he crafted compelling descriptions to attract potential clients. “I wrote things like ‘I can make your game look more appealing.’ That really caught some attention,” he explained.
His first project came in 2022 — a simple car model that could be uploaded into Roblox. Since then, the number of commissions has steadily increased. On average, one car model takes about one to two days to complete. However, since clients usually order in bulk, the entire project could take over three weeks to finish.
“The biggest challenge is time management, especially since I still have to attend classes. Sometimes clients ask for 5 to 10 cars at once. There was even one who wanted 20 cars done in less than a month — that was really stressful,” Egan admitted. Despite the pressure, Egan keeps his spirits high. He maximizes his free time after class to make progress on his projects. “I make sure there’s progress every day, even just a little,” he added.
Today, his business has reached a fairly stable phase. Nearly every month, someone places an order. Looking ahead, Egan plans to expand his reach by being more active on social media and creating short content for TikTok and YouTube Shorts to attract more potential clients.
For other students who are considering starting a business, Egan shared this advice:
“If there’s something you love doing, just try turning it into a source of income. Don’t overthink the what-ifs. Just go for it, and you’ll learn how to manage things along the way. Most importantly, maintain the quality of your products or services — that’s going to be your portfolio in the future.”
Egan’s story is a testament to how creativity and perseverance can open up great opportunities, even from something as simple as playing games. Curious to see Egan’s creations? Visit his Fiverr page at fiverr.com/rezqybelva.
