The education staff (tendik) team from the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (ELECTICS) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) achieved remarkable success at the 28th National Quality and Productivity Work Meeting (TKMPN XXVIII) 2024. With their innovative project titled “Inovasi Pengolahan Sampah Botol Plastik Menjadi Barang Multiguna,” the FT-EIC 3R team captured the judges’ attention and secured a platinum ranking. The team, consisting of Rio Tria Hardhitya as the leader, along with Dwi Ermawati and Dian Ernawati, successfully brought ITS into the national spotlight.
This achievement was driven by their creative idea of transforming plastic waste into more useful products. Through the upcycling concept, discarded plastic bottles were converted into plant pots, stationery holders, and decorative items with economic value. This innovation not only addresses environmental issues on campus but also has the potential for broader social impact.
Despite limited preparation time, the team remained determined throughout the competition. Although they initially had doubts due to the short timeframe, they persevered and ultimately proved that hard work yields results. “We truly did not expect to bring ITS to shine in this event,” said Rio Tria Hardhitya with pride.
Beyond the competition, the trip to Bali became a memorable experience for the team. Dwi Ermawati shared that their initial plan was simply to enjoy the trip while participating in the event, but they ended up returning home with an extraordinary achievement. Dian Ernawati added that the competition felt more familiar with the presence of many ITS alumni as judges and participants. “We even had the chance to take photos together after our presentation,” she recalled. They also took the opportunity to enjoy cultural tourism, including the Barong performance and a visit to a waterfall, making the trip even more unforgettable.
The success of the FT-EIC 3R team is not only a source of pride for them but also for the entire ITS academic community. This achievement proves that with innovation, perseverance, and the courage to face challenges, extraordinary milestones can be reached despite limitations. The FT-EIC 3R team has demonstrated that practical innovation not only benefits the environment but also inspires many others to keep creating.
