Ignoring breakfast or breakfast is often a problem faced by many people because of their busy schedule, including students. This is what prompted a team of students from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) named the Reveluv Team to be moved to design the Breakfast app, a breakfast habitual platform for overseas students.

ITS Reveluv Team Leader Nur Muhammad Ainul Yaqin said, the idea to design this application stems from his personal experience of frequently getting stomach ulcers due to his bad habit of delaying breakfast. “The bustle of lectures and organizations that have been quite dense since morning cannot be denied causing diseases that are too late to be realized,” he said.

Therefore, he and his team designed my Breakfast application with four main features. Namely Breakfast Weekly Subscription, AI Generated Menu Recommend, My Breakfast Strike Point, Invite Friends and Monitor Parents. “These features are designed to be focused on the problem of breakfast and its habit for students,” explained Nur.

According to Nur, the Weekly Subscription Breakfast  feature requires users to subscribe to breakfast catering for a week with a payment system that is made in advance. In collaboration with catering partners around ITS, the selected breakfast package will be delivered every day to the user’s address from 05.00 to 08.00 in the morning.

Interestingly, my Breakfast also designs a gamification experience for users through the My Breakfast Strike Point feature. With this feature, every day the user’s points can continue to increase when taking breakfast that is delivered. Points earned can be used to level up the application and enjoy promo facilities. “If in one day the user is reluctant to take breakfast, the points will return to zero,” he explained.

The AI Generated Menu Recommend feature allows users to choose a weekly menu package that suits their preferences. “From the assessment that was carried out, a menu package was produced which also adjusted to the menu availability from the catering partners,” said the 2020 batch of Informatics Engineering student.

Not only that, he continued, My Breakfast also features Invite Friends and Parental Monitor features. Through this feature, student parents will get information whether their child is taking breakfast that day or not. “As for the Invite Friends feature, it can be a means for students to share their breakfast,” added the young man from Madiun.

Together with his two colleagues, Ahmad Ibnu Malik Rahman and Muhammad Ferdian Iqbal, Nur designed this application using the double diamond method. Using this method, his team carried out three design iterations. Starting from conducting a survey to determine the right user, followed by validating the habits of prospective users when using the application, to forming the final design by placing features in the application that make it easier for users.

Even though the design of this application is still in the development stage, the team guided by ITS Informatics Engineering lecturer Hadziq Fabroyir SKom PhD has won a bronze medal at the 2022 XV National Student Exhibition in the Field of Information and Communication Technology (Gemastik) in the User Experience Design category. “Hopefully in the future my breakfast can actually be run as a business that can solve breakfast problems for students,” he concluded optimistically.
