Sitting on the First Rank in Scopus, a Lecturer of the Department of Informatics Received an Award from The Ministry of Research and Technology /BRIN

ITS Campus, ITS News-An award won by one of the lecturers at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Prof. Drs Ec Ir Riyanarto Sarno MSc Ph.D. He has successfully achieved the first rank on Scopus rating. This good news was announced by the Ministry of Research and Technology/BRIN on a video conference, Thursday (28/5).

In addition to the Scopus ranking, the conference also announced a 500 performance rating list of Indonesian scientists year 2020 based on the Science and Technology Index (SINTA). There are 20 other ITS researcher and lecturers who made it through the top 500 list.

Agus M Hatta ST. MSI Ph.D., the director of research and community service institution of ITS (LPPM-ITS), explained that two of the 20 names had reached the top 20. “One of them is Prof Riyanarto that achieved the first position in Scopus rating,” he said.

The SINTA ranking is an innovative information system of science that aims to measure researchers’ innovation of networking systems. “Its the result of the accumulated score this year, Prof Riyanarto successfully reached the score of 6,893 sitting on the fourth rank,” said the lecturer who often called by Hatta.

Meanwhile, Prof Riyanarto Sarno explains that SINTA summarizes the conference and Journal publication Data and quality based on the Scopus index criteria. Over the past three years, the number of successful Scopus publications was indexed were 48 articles and 142 conferences.

Beside the Scopus ranking, the conference also delivered 500 performance rating list of Indonesian scientists 2020 based on the Science and Technology Index (SINTA). In addition to the name of Prof. Riyanarto Sarno of the Department of Informatics Engineering, there are 20 names of ITS Other research lecturers who entered in large 500 with the best performance.

The SINTA Award winner year 2019 in the most prolific scientist category explains, “Among those areas related to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. More specifically, in the Medical, Enterprise, Process Mining, and Business Process Management field,” he said.

The effort to complete this scientific activity was made by providing mentoring to his students, either the undergraduate, magister, and doctoral levels, to participate in conducting research. “Then, the research was published and used by other students or researchers,” he explained.
Riyan also says that the key to this scientific research and publication is to stay focused and actively collaborating.

In line with what is desired by ITS, Canadian University graduate, Hatta said that the LPPM-ITS supports the promotion of research activities in ITS is accelerated by establishing partnerships from both domestic and overseas.

With his achievement as the first rank Scopus of 197,490 researchers in Indonesia, Riyan hopes to motivate other lecturers, researchers, and students, especially in ITS, to improve the research activities to find inventions and innovations. “Hopefully, there will be more scientific publications that can be converted into a product with good economic value,” said Riyan passionately.
