As a result of research collaboration and development between Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and PT. Garasindo, GESITS (Garasindo Electric Scooter ITS), an electrical motorcycle prototype, had been officially launched by Minister of Research and Higher Education (Ristekdikti) of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nasir, M.Si, Akt, Ph.D.
Rector of ITS, Prof. Joni Hermana, expressed his admiration for this long-conducted research. After all, this was something which was highly potential to be mass produced. It was one of creative way for utilizing technology.
CEO of PT. Garasindo, Muhammad Al Abdullah, was also very proud of this achievement. He explained his view about significant development of motorcycle and its effect on environmental destruction. Due to the use of conventional fuel, motorcycles also contribute to global warming. So he was sure that the use of electrical motorcycle would withdraw much public attention that conventional fuel utilization would be reduced. He also suggested that Indonesia should be focusing on developing electrical energy as another source of renewable energy (aside of solar, wind, etc).
Team leader of GESITS, Dr. Muhammad Yuniarto, once stated that actually Garasindo as motorcycle producer would not spend too much effort if they just imported motorcyles from other countries. But they were determined to produce high quailty motorcyle as original product of Indonesia as one of contribution to build this country. It is a relief that after observing market segmentation and many improvement process, that determination turned out to be a prototype which was close to a perfect model.
All of the electric motorcycle components were self-produced. Even the design was created by research team of ITS. The collaboration of hard work obtains lots of positive reviews. But they take it as a responsibility. Because, it is a great mandate to be one of initiators of local automotive producer and prove that Indonesia is able to be as great as other countries in the world.
