Even though the start of this new semester is still in the pandemic situation and almost all of the campus activity are still held online, this did not hinder the holding of the GCW IUP: Basic for every new International Undergraduate Program (IUP) ITS students to improve the skills that will help them survive in the first year of being an IUP ITS students as well as to broaden their knowledge and insight about internationalization.
GCW IUP: Basic is a workshop that aims to help all first-year IUP ITS students (batch of 2020) to survive as an IUP ITS students with a series of English Class Survival that consists of Listening & Note Taking, Building Confidence & Speaking, Tips & Tricks for Presentation, and Present Your Ideas. Writing and Speaking Simulation was also held in the event which is mandatory for all the participants and will be scored and observed by 25 experienced reviewers. In order for IUP, ITS Students to gain new insights and knowledge about internationalization, GCW IUP: Basic also consists of Global Thinking, Knowing Opportunities, Understanding English Proficiency Test (TOEFL & IELTS), Get Prepared: Going Abroad, and International Attitude and Code of Conduct sessions which were delivered by professionals and experienced speakers. The event was held on 23-25 October 2020 by using Zoom as the platform.
On the first day of the event, GCW IUP: Basic was opened with a “Global Thinking” session that was brought by Assoc. Prof. Maria Anityasari Ph.D., the director of ITS Global Engagement, followed by “Knowing Opportunities” session brought by Faiqoh Agustin S.T, a staff of ITS Global Engagement. Then, with two sessions of simulation, the Writing Simulation (consist of Descriptive Writing & Essay Writing) and Speaking Simulation, the first day of GCW IUP: Basic was ended successfully.

On the second day, the event was opened with remarks by Octaviyanti Dwi Wahyu, Ph.D. and was continued with the topic of understanding the English Proficiency Test: TOEFL and IELTS by Yehezkiel Tumewu as a representative of EduSA Advisor. There were also a series of English Class Survival delivered by Nadhifah, Indira, and also Kezia, who are students of ITS. In addition, there is also a Get Prepared session which aims to increase the global competence and international exposure of IUP students brought by Brigita, who is also an ITS student. The event was closed with an assignment regarding future plans of the participants during their study in ITS which was presented by Faiqoh Agustin S.T, a staff of ITS Global Engagement.
The last day of the event was held on 25 October 2020. The event was opened with an International Attitude and Code of Conduct session brought by Assoc. Prof. Rulli Pratiwi Setiawan, Ph.D, Senior Manager of ITS Global Engagement. Followed by the Speaking and Writing Simulation Feedback delivered by Assoc. Prof. Octaviyanti Dwi Wahyu, Ph.D. and Assoc. Prof. Astria Nur Irfansyah Ph.D., Senior Managers of ITS Global Engagement. Then, the last series of English Class Survival : Present Your Ideas was held in which the participants were presenting their Plan The Journey assignment that was given on the day before. The event was closed with the Review and Feedback session delivered by Faiqoh Agustin S.T, a staff of ITS Global Engagement dan Afifah, volunteer of ITS Global Engagement, in which the participants were asked to give their thoughts and answer several questions regarding the GCW IUP: Basic 2020.
Overall, All the participants were very enthusiastic all throughout the workshop and interested in the materials that are presented because it was very informative and very interesting to follow, delivered by speakers from variative background, and also how they presented it in an interactive way. Other than that, every question and answer session after one session ended made the discussions very interactive. GCW IUP: Basic is expected to make IUP ITS Students to be much more ready as an IUP ITS Students by being more confident to prove themselves to compete globally with their potentials, experiences, and also knowledge.
