What’s GPBL?

Global Project Based Learning (GPBL) offers opportunities for the students of Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT)’s overseas universities to engage in acquiring problem solving capabilities, system thinking, and system management skills through problem solving experience.

Promoting a space for young mathematicians, analyst, and researchers to connect and network, SIT and ITS collaborate to create GPBL in Mathematics, inviting students from both universities and their selected overseas partners’.

 

The Hosting Universities

Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan

Known as a high reputation university in Japan prominent in engineering and science, SIT upholds the philosophy of “learning through practice” for its education system.

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Japan

As a top-rank research-based university in Indonesia, prominent in engineering, technology, science, and art and design, ITS strives to cultivate international learning environment.

Previous GPBL in Mathematics by SIT and ITS:

  • GPBL 2020 – Mathematical challenges towards disease outbreaks (Virtual)
  • GPBL 2019 – Solving Problems in Surabaya City using Mathematical Science

 

The 2021 GPBL Program Details

This year, GPBL in Mathematics offers four (4) topics for wider audience to explore including:

  • Let’s play with automata (by Prof. Tomoyuki Idogawa, SIT)
  • Introduction to stochastic processes and applications (by Dr. Tomonori Nakatsu, SIT)
  • Optimization and its applications (by Prof. Mardlijah, ITS)
  • Mixed-Integer Programming Modelling (by Dr. Sena Safarina, ITS)

 

Program Details:
Day                  : Monday to Saturday
Date                 : 2-7 August 2021
Duration         : 6 (six) days; 3 (three) hours for each meeting
Time                :
– Indonesian Standard Time (IST)       : 1PM – 4PM
– Japan Standard Time (JST)                 : 3PM – 6PM
Platform          : Zoom
Activities         : Lecturers, discussion, project presentation, and fun activities*

 

Call for Participants

Eligibilities:

  1. Active ITS student from any batch and any major (preferably but not limited to students of Mathematics Department)
  2. Having good English (oral and written)
  3. Minimum GPA 2.75
  4. Highly motivated, committed, and discipline

Requirements:

  1. CV
  2. Transcript
  3. Language Certificate (English and/ or Japanese)

  • June 3, 2021 – Call for participants
  • June 26, 2021 – Deadline for application
  • July 12-17, 2021 – Selection and Interview
  • July 17, 2021 – Participant announcement
  • July 19, 2021 – Participant briefing
