A Semester Exchange at POSTECH Spring 2023

Dear ITS Students,

Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH) South Korea  would like to inform you that the registration for semester exchange application for Spring semester 2023 (Intake February 20, 2023 – June 9, 2023) is already opened.  The tuition fee for this program is waived. However the accepted students are responsible for their learning materials, dorms, visa fees and living expenses in Korea including Roundtrip Flight Ticket & Insurance.

The POSTECH International Exchange Program will give you the opportunity to study and immerse yourself in the Korean culture and actively participate in research activities under supervision of an advising professor. The POSTECH International Exchange Program is offered for undergraduate/graduate students from partner universities of POSTECH around the world.

ALERT:
Restrictions in Student/Campus Life The current national measures for COVID-19 prevention includes “no personal gatherings exceeding 4 people”, and POSTECH does not encourage events or activities, international/intercity travels that may relate. There will be limitations in enjoying the full academic and cultural experience of the exchange program, and such measures may be elevated accordingly.

You can only choose courses registered for Spring Semester. Please indicate the courses taught in English with this  code “EN” and courses that taught in Korean with this code “KO”. You need also the check whether the courses can be taken by undergraduate students or graduate students

Course Registration
Exchange students will register for courses on POVIS during the designated period for exchange students, if spaces permit.
To register for classes with prerequisites, please directly consult with the professor/instructor and submit the “Change of Course Registration Form” to the host department office during the add/drop period (first week of semester).

Living Expenses
Housing Approx. 600,000 KRW per semester (must be paid in a sum total within 2 weeks of arrival)
Meals 350,000 KRW per month

※ Monthly Meal Plans – 30 meals/month: 81,000 KRW – 45 meals/month: 112,500 KRW
Transportation 80,000 KRW per month (local)
Total Living Cost Approx. 800,000 KRW per month

Students are required to purchase a separate insurance plan that covers most illnesses and injuries and is valid for at least 1 month from the student’s arrival in Korea.
Additionally, as of March 2021, all international students in Korea will be automatically registered to the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS), effective from the date of their alien registration (most likely done within 10 days into the semester). All will be able to receive equal medical benefits as Korean nationals, receiving automatic discounts for doctors’ appointments and prescription drugs. Exchange students will receive monthly invoices by post, and the cost will be approx. 50,000 KRW/month.

This program are open for D4/S1 ITS Students batch 2019, 2020 and also S2 batch 2021. The students must take and transfer the courses minimum for D4/S1 12 SKS and min 6 SKS for S2 (in ITS credit). 

Here are the required documents that you need to prepare :

  1. CV
  2. Latest of An Academic Transcript in English version min 3,00
  3. Certificate of Enrollment
  4. One recommendation letter from lecturer in your dept
  5. Scanned Passport with validity minimum one year
  6. Valid English Proficiency Test Score (original). TOEFL/EFL (min 477) or you can use IELTS/IBT. (Screenshoot from Web UPT Bahasa is not acceptable)
  7. Statement Letter & Learning Agreement (please download from here http://bit.ly/its-student-exchange )
  8. 1-2  pages motivation letter (please mentioned your selected dept/courses)
  9. Valid Korean Proficiency Test Score (if any)
  10. Certificate of GCW Non Degree (minimum C) or Result Test GCW Non Degree min 80 (please kindly note that this documents is required for this program, S2 ITS Students can replace it with R2SEP certificate
  11. Medical Check-Up Requirement: Proof of a tuberculosis check-up (in English) is required. You may submit it after you got passed internal selections
