I Wayan Wirasa Electrical Engineering Department Lab Internship – Student Research Exchange Program Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan
Going abroad is not only about flying out of our country. For me, it is a process to develop more skills that may be important at some point. I struggled a lot to get myself to abroad programs-lack of writing skills, have no confidence to speak in discussions, and so on. But my strong determination to be better took me there; tried the essay tutorial, watched how LGDs run, learned how to write a more appropriate email to professors and so forth-things I never thought I would learn if it wasn’t for this. I did fail many times. Then finally, I found my new self with more liberty to express myself. To be more honest to my own self.

I learned that sometimes unexpected events can lead to amazing opportunities, and that a positive attitude and a willingness to learn can take you a long way.
During my exchange semester at IISMA, I had countless exciting and memorable experiences that I wouldn’t be able to pick just one to write about! Firstly, I met so many amazing people, both fellow IISMA awardees and locals, as well as international friends. We had so much fun exploring Seoul together and making unforgettable memories.
Secondly, I went on many solo trips around the city, and they were all so therapeutic. There’s something about wandering alone in a walkable city that just makes me feel so free. I did some retail therapy and window shopping, and I also visited some viral cafes and local businesses. It was interesting to see how the cafe culture and small business development in Korea are quite similar to what we have back in Indonesia. Read more of my story here…

It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I met so many amazing people, learned new things, and had a lot of fun. The UK is a diverse and vibrant country with a rich history. I enjoyed visiting famous landmarks, trying new foods, and joining some clubs and societies.
Of course, there were also some challenges and difficulties along the way. I had to adjust to a different academic style, cope with homesickness, and manage my budget. But I think these experiences helped me grow as a person and develop new skills.
I would highly recommend IISMA programme to anyone who wants to broaden their horizons and have an unforgettable adventure. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that you don’t want to miss. Read more of my story here…
Kaysha Floren Devinadiar Industrial and System Engineering – Master Study Excursion Goes to Singapore Global Connect Fellowship, Nanyang Technological University
Hello, my name is Kaysha! I’m a master’s student in Industrial Engineering at ITS with a passion for sustainability. I also work as a safety officer at Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Indonesia, gaining valuable insights into sustainability in the energy sector.
In the summer of 2024, I participated in the NTU Global Connect Fellowship, conducting research on hydrogen co-firing as a decarbonization action in Indonesia under Prof. Vishwanathan at Nanyang Business School. The excellent research environment at NTU, along with access to numerous journals and facilities, has been instrumental in my growth.
Meeting 31 fellows from various countries has enriched my cultural understanding and provided global perspectives on sustainability. Despite initial concerns about my English communication skills, I overcame my fears, developed close friendships, and gained confidence.
My journey at NTU has been transformative, enhancing both my professional and personal growth. This chapter will always be a favorite in my life.
Muhammad Dliaul Haq School of Interdisciplinary Management and Technology – Master GPBL CEP 2023 – Shibaura Institute of Technology Japan Summer Programme 2024 – Rennes School of Business France Sandwich Program 2024 with Sato Yo Foundation Scholarship – Shibaura Institute of Technology Japan
Hello, I’m Haq, currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Analytics at SIMT ITS. During my undergraduate years, I stayed within my comfort zone in Indonesia, focusing solely on developing soft and hard skills due to fear and self-doubt. This changed at ITS, where I sought international exposure with the help of the ITS International Office.
Participating in the Global Competencies Workshop (GCW) event sparked numerous opportunities. My interest in Japanese culture and prior experience with a Japanese company led me to a Global Project Based Learning Program in Japan with the JASSO Scholarship. Inspired by a lecturer who studied in France, I also attended a summer program in France. To further hone my research skills, I joined a one-year sandwich program in Japan with the Sato Yo Scholarship.
These international experiences have made me more adaptive, tolerant, and culturally aware. They fueled my passion for sales and marketing, integrated with data science, and allowed me to make my parents proud. This journey has reignited my drive to excel and contribute to education and sales marketing.
I encourage students to seek international exposure. The experiences and knowledge gained will be invaluable and unforgettable, despite the challenges. “Don’t complain, just do it.”
