The SATU President’s Forum is a prestigious platform for university presidents across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Taiwan, with its permanent secretariat housed at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Taiwan. Established in 2003, the forum includes participation from top-ranking universities in Taiwan, such as National Taiwan University.
Since ITS joined SATU in late 2021, the university has reaped significant benefits, including collaborative funding opportunities for research involving ITS researchers alongside counterparts from Taiwan and Malaysia. NCKU is highly regarded in Taiwan and Asia, ranking 41st in the QS Asia University Rankings in 2023.
NCKU is home to the Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC) (MDIC Website), a leading institution in biomedical technology with joint research hubs in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. For academia-industry collaborations, NCKU operates GLORIA NCKU (Global Research and Industry Alliance), a consultancy for innovation development and industry partnerships. GLORIA has previously explored potential collaborations with several Indonesian universities under Kedaireka proposals. In 2018, the SATU Forum saw participation from 72 universities, with representation from key academic leaders and officials from Taiwan.
ITS’ involvement in the SATU President’s Forum is a strategic step as a new member to strengthen its reputation in Taiwan and foster deeper bilateral ties with NCKU. Currently, ITS and NCKU collaborate through a joint master’s degree program in the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Geomatics Engineering.
