In order to strengthen the defense of the Indonesian sea area, the Indonesian Navy’s Main Weapons Laboratory (Labinsen) made a direct visit to the ITS Material Engineering and Defense Technology Workshop to directly observe defense technology research and development activities by the team under the auspices of ITS.
Marine Lieutenant Colonel (KH) Saiful Hidayat, S.Si, M.T., representing the head of the Indonesian Navy Labinsen, accompanied by Prof. Hamzah Fansuri as part of the ITS FFAR 70 propellant team, made a visit to the ITS Material Engineering and Defense Technology Workshop, which is located within the Faculty of Industrial Technology and Systems Engineering (FTIRS ITS). The event occurred on Thursday, January 26, 2023. The visit was welcomed by Dr. Widyastuti, the lecturer in charge of the workshop.
The visit activity began by observing some of the research being carried out at the workshop, including improving the Automorse system. This technology is capable of sending messages between ships with Morse code, which is expected to automatically rotate as the ship moves. In addition, this workshop is currently working on research related to the synthesis of rocket materials and double-base propellant.
Along with this visit, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held between the two parties to discuss potential defense technology cooperation, particularly for maritime security such as underwater weapons and underwater vehicle detectors. Both parties hope that this visit can be the initiation of collaborative research activities to realize better sea defense technology in the future.
Furthermore, the return visit of the ITS IoTTP team to Labinsen was carried out on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. During this visit, the ITS group was received by the head of Labinsen, Colonel Marine (E) Asep Subhan, and the full team. During this visit, the ITS team was allowed to see the innovation research being developed there, including the laboratory facilities. At the end of the activity, it was agreed to develop research between ITS and Labinsen for the progress and independence of the nation and state.
