PT Pindad carried out a demonstration activity of shooting frangible munitions caliber 9×19 mm (MU-1F) on Thursday, 28 July 2022 at the PT Pindad Shooting Range, Bandung. Frangible ammunition is the result of PT Pindad’s research and ITS is supported by LPDP which is the latest innovation in ammunition products. Test activities are carried out by applying standards and benchmarks for testing munitions products. The test was attended by the Director of Technology and Development of PT Pindad, Sigit P. Santosa, Sops Paspampres, Kopassus, Kopasgat, Marines, Subditbinmu Puspalad, Baglog Korbrimob, Bagren Korbrimob, Satlat Brimob, Bagrenlog Slog Polri, Baginvent Slog Polri, LPDP, and a delegation from the Institute of Technology November tenth.

The 9×19 mm frangible ammunition is the latest innovation in ammunition products, with projectiles specifically designed to break easily when they hit the target. The characteristics of frangible munitions (MU-1F) are Reduced Ricochet, Limited Penetration where the bullet projectile will disintegrate into smaller particles such as powder when an impact occurs.

Previously, this bullet had also been subjected to repeated tests between Pindad and ITS with targets such as steel plates, brick walls, and gel with the final result being that the bullet turned into powder when it hit the target. Which is used as an evaluation for the process of research and manufacture of further bullets. It is also suitable for indoor firing practice and for special operations in densely populated environments, aircraft and flammable areas.

This research was previously the result of research by ITS researchers chaired by Mrs. Widyastuti (Deputy Head of the IoTTP Research Center) in collaboration with PT Pindad Pesero which has been going on for the last few years. This frangible projectile is expected to be able to strengthen the carrying capacity of the defense and security of the Republic of Indonesia.
