Collaboration Between ITS and APTIKOM East Java in Research Workshop 2025 to Elevate Scopus Publications

Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology, FTEIC, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), in collaboration with the Association of Higher Education in Computer Science (APTIKOM) East Java, successfully organized the International Research Workshop 2025, focusing on strategies to increase Scopus-indexed scientific publications and enhance lecturers’ h-index. The event was held at the ITS Tower 2 Building, bringing together strategic partners from both domestic and international institutions.

This workshop is part of the ITS Rector’s 2025 work program, which aims to elevate the academic reputation through high-quality scientific publications. With the theme “Effective Strategies to Improve H-Index and Scopus Publications”, the workshop gathered academics from various universities, including Ganesh Neelakanta Iyer, Ph.D., from the School of Computing, National University of Singapore (NUS). During his session, Dr. Ganesh delivered a lecture titled “Artificial Intelligence: Applications and Implications in Education, Healthcare, and Cultural Heritage”, which captivated the audience.

The event welcomed more than 20 international participants, including Prof. Catherine R. Alimboyong (North Eastern Mindanao State University), Dr. Rowell Hernandez (Batangas State University), Dr. Diosdado Caronongan (University of Luzon), and Dr. Adonis V. Garces (Saint Mary University). Additionally, 38 domestic participants represented institutions such as Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Udayana, UPN Veteran Jawa Timur, Universitas Tarumanagara, Universitas Surabaya, Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya, Universitas Katolik Darma Cendika, Universitas Telkom Surabaya, Universitas Ma Chung, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya, and others.

Beyond material presentations, the workshop featured interactive discussions and collaborative research planning within research groups. Dr. R. V. Hari Ginardi, Head of the Department of Information Technology, FTEIC ITS, emphasized that inter-university collaboration—both domestic and international—is key to increasing both the quantity and quality of lecturers’ publications. This was echoed by APTIKOM East Java Chairman Yoyon Arie Budhie, M.Kom, who highlighted that improving the quality and competence of human resources remains APTIKOM’s top priority for 2025.

Mr. Fuad, one of the ITS participants, described attending Dr. Ganesh’s guest lecture as an invaluable opportunity, particularly in understanding how to establish research collaborations with other universities. He found Dr. Ganesh’s approach—where each group was asked to present research problems for potential collaboration—especially insightful. Dr. Ganesh’s relaxed and engaging teaching style made the material easy to understand and well-received by participants.

“As lecturers, research is a fundamental part of the tridharma of higher education, and this workshop is highly relevant to our mission of producing high-quality research,” Mr. Fuad expressed.

Meanwhile, Yusrida Muflihah, a participant from Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya, stated that she felt even more motivated to take concrete steps in writing and publishing Scopus-indexed papers. “Perhaps I should also participate in ICIC2025 APTIKOM in Bandar Lampung,” she said optimistically.

Through this workshop, it is hoped that academics can expand their research networks and boost their productivity in scientific publications, contributing to the global recognition of their respective institutions.
