Ms. Rocel Audrey Batara delivered a presentation during the guest lecture on Human-Computer Interaction to students of the Department of Information Technology
Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Guest Lecture held on Tuesday (4/3) provided a valuable experience for students, especially those new to the HCI concept. The event featured Ms. Rocel Audrey Batara as the keynote speaker, who successfully delivered the material in an engaging and inspiring manner.
Angga, a 2024 batch Information Technology student, shared his expectations before attending the lecture. “As a freshman, I had no prior knowledge of HCI. Ms. Rocel’s material truly helped me understand how computers interact with humans and the importance of data visualization in the tech world,” he stated.

One of the most captivating parts of the lecture was the empathize phase in human-computer interaction design. Angga realized the significance of conducting preliminary approaches, such as interviews, before designing a visualization system. “I thought creativity in visualization was just about ideas, but it turns out there are structured steps that need to be taken first. This was truly an eye-opening moment for me,” he added.

Additionally, the step-by-step process of building human-computer interaction was a new insight for attendees. “Previously, I had no idea that HCI had clear stages. The visualization explained by Ms. Rocel greatly helped me understand the process,” Angga explained.
In today’s rapidly advancing technological world, understanding Human-Machine Interactions is crucial. Angga rated the importance of this concept as 9/10. “In this AI-driven era, we must be adaptive and continuously learn about HCI to keep up with technological developments,” he said.
The lecture content was also highly relevant to the Information Technology curriculum. According to Angga, the session provided an initial overview of what students will learn in HCI. “I realized that HCI is not just about UI/UX but also involves concepts like Design Thinking and other approaches,” he noted.
The material presented by Ms. Rocel received a warm response from the participants, reflected in their enthusiasm during interactions and questions asked during the Q&A session
Ms. Rocel’s presentation received high praise from participants. “She was very interactive, articulate in explaining the material, and truly helped me grasp the basics of HCI. At first, I knew nothing, but now I have a clearer understanding of this topic,” Angga shared.
When asked to describe the guest lecture in one word, Angga confidently responded, “Awesome!”
The HCI Guest Lecture successfully broadened students’ perspectives and provided a deeper understanding of human-computer interaction. As technology continues to evolve, it is hoped that students will keep exploring this field and apply their knowledge in various future innovations.
