ITS Team from Heroes Cyber Security Wins 2nd Place in Capture The Flag Category
Surabaya, IT Journalistic — ITS students have once again achieved remarkable success in cybersecurity by securing 2nd place in the Capture The Flag (CTF) competition at House of Technology (Hology) 2025, organized by the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Filkom UB). This competition serves as a platform for students from various universities in Indonesia to sharpen their skills in Information and Communication Technology. One of the ITS teams, “SOGNO DI VOLARE”, claimed 2nd place after a highly competitive battle against participants from across the country.
The “SOGNO DI VOLARE” team, led by Muhammad Azril Fathoni from the ITS Department of Information Technology (DTI), included Fawwaz Razani from Information Systems 2022 and Jericho Nathanael from Informatics Engineering 2022. With their diverse backgrounds, they combined their expertise to tackle the complex challenges presented in this competition.
The competition consisted of two main stages: the qualification round and the final round. After passing the rigorous qualification stage, the ITS team advanced to the final round, where they faced even more challenging tasks with higher levels of difficulty. In a tight competition, the ITS team narrowly missed the top position, finishing just behind the 1st place winners.
“We were a bit disappointed to only secure 2nd place. Our opponents were really strong, but we are still proud of our performance,” Azril admitted. Nevertheless, this achievement remains a proud milestone, considering the level of difficulty and intense competition.
As someone deeply involved in cybersecurity, Azril also shared his experiences and provided advice for students interested in the field. According to him, participating in Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions is one of the best ways to learn, as it offers real-world problem-solving experiences. “At first, some CTF challenges might seem too difficult, but that’s normal. The important thing is not just winning but gaining valuable knowledge,” he stated.
Azril hopes that more ITS students, especially those from the Department of Information Technology (DTI), will take an interest in and seriously pursue cybersecurity. He has observed an increasing number of students actively learning and competing, both individually and within communities.
“It’s time to strengthen IT’s focus on cybersecurity,” he added optimistically.
This achievement demonstrates that ITS students possess great potential in cybersecurity. As digital threats continue to rise, ITS students are prepared to contribute to innovation and digital protection in the ever-evolving cyber landscape.
