Postgraduate Chemistry Study Program in ITS was began in the 2004/2005 academic year, after the Bachelor Study Program established more than two decades. Chemistry Department is the chosen and trusted chemical education institution, with its own advantages, proven to have received a block grant of Technogical Skill Development Sector Project Bath III and the Institution Competition Grant Program. The ITS Postgraduate Chemistry Study Program also won the trust of the Directorate of Vocational Secondary Education to improve widaswara stratafication, vocational teachers and the Education Quality Assurance Institution throughout Indonesia in the Chemistry Masters Program. Similar cooperation programs were also carried out with the Ministry of Religion for chemistry teachers, and with the Directorate of Education Personnel for lecturers and prospective lecturers from the 3T (outermost, frontier, and disadvantaged) regions.
Some alumni graduated through the Double Degree Masters Program with the first year education scheme at ITS and the second year of study abroad with the following details of the study program partners:
- The Chemical Engineering Department, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, comprises four alumni
- Food Engineering and Bioresources Technology Department, Asian Institute of Technologym, Thailand as many as three alumni
- Chemical Transformations of Naturals Resource, Chemistry Department, Université de Picardie Jules Verne, France as many as one alumni
- The Master 2 of SERP-Chem, Université Paris-sud, France is one alumni
Alumni of the Double Degree Masters Program receive master’s degrees from ITS and partner universities. In addition, there was one alumni who graduated with a student exchange for one semester in the School of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
Program Overview
Chemistry Master Program is accredited by the National Accreditation Board-Higher Education (BAN-PT) with an A grade. The program is prepared with a weight of 36 credits and is scheduled in four semesters which allows it to be completed in three semesters. Areas of interest:
- Analytical Chemistry
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Physical Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
- Biochemistry

Master Leading to Doctoral Program for Honour Bachelor (Program Magister menuju Doktor untuk Sarjana Unggul)
PMDSU is a program with 28-30 credits at the master level scheduled for one year (two semesters). Students who successfully complete the first year program can either continue at the doctoral level (without completing the master program) scheduled for three years (six semesters) with 42-44 credits including a dissertation (30 credits).
STAFF
The teaching staff of the ITS Chemistry Postgraduate Study Program consists of 23 S3 graduate lecturers from various foreign and domestic universities, with 7 of them having attained professorship.
FACILITIES
ITS’s Postgraduate Chemistry Study Program as part of the ITS Chemistry Department occupies a four-storey K building and a J building with two ITS campuses; which is used as a lecture room, discussion room, seminar room, lecturer room, administration room, laboratory, and library. The lecture hall and seminar room are equipped with air condition and LCD projector. The discussion room, lecturer room, library, and administration room are also equipped with air condition. The Chemistry Department is equipped with Wi-Fi internet networks that are connected to international journal access via ScienceDirect, EbscoHost, Gale Cengage Learning, etc.
Research on Chemistry Postgraduate students is mainly carried out in one of the research laboratories as follows: Laboratory of Chemical Materials and Energy, Natural Material Chemistry and Synthesis, Instrumentation and Analytical Science, Chemical Microorganism, Molecular Organic Geochemistry. Supporting facilities are available at the ITS Energy Laboratory, as well as partner institutions at home and abroad. Almost all researches of the Chemical Postgraduate Program students received financial support from lecturers who received research grants sourced from within and outside the country, even some of the research was also conducted by students abroad (Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand).
