The MMT-ITS Study Program holds an international guest lecture to enhance student insights. Located in the 4th floor Auditorium ITS Tjokroaminoto Campus (9/3), the guest lecturer was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Zuraidah Raja Mohd Rasi from the Department of Production and Operations Management, Faculty of Technology Management and Business, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The participants were Industrial Management students from the Supply Chain Management class, moderated by Prof. Iwan Vanany.

This lecture is about “Supply Chain Integration: The Rhetoric and Reality”. Supply chain integration is an association of customers and suppliers using management techniques. They work together to optimize their performance in the creation, distribution, and support of the final product. In addition, supply chain integration also transforms a complex and diverse network of partners and operations into a functioning ecosystem. Zuraidah gave an example: a supply chain network that needed to be adjusted to market needs, but also had to minimize costs. This problem can be solved by supply chain integration.

There are four main objectives of supply chain integration, namely increasing response time, increasing production time, reducing costs, and reducing waste. Meanwhile, according to Zuraidah there are 2 types of integration, namely horizontal integration and vertical integration. Zuraidah also explained how to formulate a supply chain strategy, then integrate it. Push, Pull, and Push and pull strategies are also comprehensively discussed, starting from the old and new supply chain paradigms, their characteristics, to their implementation in airlines, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and bookstores.
