ITS Involved in the Development of InaTEWS Merah Putih

MKPI ITS – Indonesia has been known as a country with a high risk of disaster, one of the disasters that has a dark history in terms of the impact of losses in Indonesia, namely the tsunami. In the current condition, Indonesia is still dependent on Germany in its tsunami early warning. In addition, these early warning institutions in their operations are still limited to providing early warning in the form of threat status, tsunami arrival time and estimated tsunami height on the coast.

BMKG initiated a research and development activity titled InaTEWS Merah Putih in an effort to realize independence in the development and maintenance of earthquake and tsunami processing systems as well as inundation modeling information that utilizes technological advances needs to be carried out by integrating various real-time monitoring entities. BMKG is collaborating with the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology along with other universities including the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, and the Bandung Institute of Technology in this activity.

This activity is still in the initial discussion stage where on 14-16 April 2023 a meeting will be held to discuss the substance and administration of the activity.
