MKPI ITS – Guaranteeing the safety of activities within the building for users is certainly a top priority, including the safety of the academic community in campus buildings. As a result of the Tuban earthquake in March 2024, the Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change Research Center (MKPI) collaborated with ITS Civil Engineering to survey the condition of the ITS Campus buildings.
This condition survey was carried out for the first time on Sunday (24/3) and has been ongoing until now in stages. The buildings that are inspected first are those with the highest user intensity, such as lecture buildings, libraries and laboratories. Then, gradually expand to other buildings until all are identified.
The results of the interim study show that the buildings on the ITS Campus are safe to use, after the 2024 Tuban earthquake. The team’s findings show that the damage is in the form of light cracks which are not structural damage so they do not affect the strength of the building. Furthermore, even though it was only minor damage, the findings were still reported to the campus for repairs
