TOPIC:
Researching Technology, People, and Innovation in Supply Chains: Towards meaningful and impactful scholarly research articles
Abstract
The goal of this keynote speech is to discuss what counts as meaningful scholarly research that can create real impacts to the management of technology, people, and innovation in supply chains. Based on my personal views and understanding, I will describe the opportunities created by emerging technologies and how operations and supply chain managers attempt to address supply chain innovation problems, in addition to other strategic and operational challenges and uncertainty they face. I will further discuss whether technology innovation in supply chains can be managed to solve societal and economic problems. Through these exercises, I will highlight some research questions and discuss what I consider as meaningful research opportunities and research agenda that focuses on a question: how is (technology) innovation created in a supply chain? To ascertain whether a research agenda is worth pursuing, I will share with you two frameworks I use, one for assessing knowledge hierarchy and another for developing paths to real-word impacts. Then, I will critically debate whether the types of research published in the field of operations and supply chain management can create new and nuanced insights and real impacts and suggest changes to the way we view research.
Note that an abstract should contain between 200 – 300 words, outlining the background, methodology, and the results of your research. Include up to six keywords and topic area in your submission.
