ITS Campus, ITS News – The 58th anniversary of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya, Indonesia was able to produce a new historical record for the ITS campus. Coinciding with the hero’s day, ITS Chancellor Prof. Ir Joni Hermana MSc ES PhD gave an explanation regarding journey of ITS and all the achievement and breakthroughs that have been achieved several years in his period, Saturday (11/10).

ITS as a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH) has gone through a transformation phase that runs for four years with a different focus for each year. The four stages include the adjustment period of ITS PTN-BH organization, the PTN-BH ITS reform period, the period of effectiveness or supervision, and the process of building a network. This stage is a long-term plan that has been jointly prepared since 2015 until it is expected to be able to run until 2020.

He also explained, ITS has three strategic objectives, namely the transformation of the organization into PTN-BH, contribution to the nation in the fields of science and technology, and the internationalization of the campus. “Each of these goals has strategic objectives and work programs that support them,” said the man who earned a Ph.D. degree from the University of Newcastle, England.

Furthermore, the status of ITS which has changed to PTN-BH resulted in a direct employment contract with the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). Every year, there is always an increase in the percentage of success of each performance achievement against the given target. In 2016, ITS was able to implement 22 indicators with a success rate of 106,9 percent. Then in 2017, ITS was able to implement 21 indicators with a success rate of 124 percent.

For this year, Joni added, ITS has been able to implement 35 indicators with a success rate of 98 percent. “This figure still can increase as it goes with the period of management until the end of this year,” he said to the academics who were present at Graha Sepuluh Nopember.

In its implementation, there are several new breakthroughs in various fields that have been successfully carried out by ITS. For breakthroughs in academics and student affairs, he continued, there were several curriculum changes that adjusted to the fourth industrial revolution and indicators on World Class University (WCU). So that the modules, infrastructure, and teaching systems provided also adjust the pattern of changes in the generation of millennials in students. Likewise with the increase in the number of students both outside Java and in East Java itself.

Meanwhile, the transformation in the financial sector and budget planning also continues to be encouraged mainly on the integration between information systems planning, monitoring, and evaluation programs (Sipmonev) and business and budget plans (RBA). Likewise, the realization of student funding assistance, the construction of facilities and the increase in wages of education staff. “We also provide internship opportunities for students so that they get more experience in the working world,” he said.

In other fields, Joni has also made a new breakthrough. Breakthroughs in the field of innovation and cooperation have followed the development trend of the fourth industrial revolution. ITS has succeeded in creating three Featured Science and Technology Centers (PUI) namely PUI Automotive Control Systems, PUI Mechatronics and Industrial Applications, and PUI Ship Safety. The latest innovative product launched this year is the PUI Creative Industry.

The last breakthrough field is related to research and community service. ITS has succeeded in publishing 2700 scientific documents in the past three years so that won second place nationally in matters of publication. ITS also plunged through the disaster response team to help victims of the Lombok earthquake by building Temporary Shelter (Huntara).

In the end, he expressed his gratitude during his three-year period as ITS Chancellor. According to him, the success of ITS so far is the result of good collaboration from various parties. The challenge of the fourth industrial revolution has also become the potential that ITS must used well by continuing to produce innovations and other creations. “Hopefully, ITS can become bigger and more victorious,” concluded Joni.
