Participants of CommTECH Camp Highlight 2019 when greeted by a traditional dance in front of ITS Rectorate building

ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) re-held the Community and Technological (CommTECH) Camp Highlight 2019. This short Summer Program brings 66 participants from different countries that will learn many things, from Indonesian culture to typical Surabaya characters from 8 to 19 July 2019.

The official inauguration of CommTECH Camp Highlight 2019 itself was implemented in ITS Rectorate building, Monday (8/7). Representing ITS Rector, Vice-Rector I of Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Ir Adi Soeprijanto MT gave his opening greeting in front of the participants. According to him, this kind of program should continue to be encouraged. “So there will be many cultural exchanges and new ideas among the participants later,” said the professor of electrical engineering.

Muhammad Ridho Fauzan Ganfi, coordinator of CommTECH Camp Highlight 2019 revealed, there are 15 different countries participating in the annual program belonging to the Directorate of International Relations. “Most participants came from China, followed by Thailand and Taiwan,” said Ojan, his greeting. However, this year anyway, ITS managed to bring participants from new countries such as the United States, Russia, Poland, Armenia, and South Korea.

The participants were divided into two different classes according to their interests. Class A titled Exploring Indonesian Art and Culture, and class B titled Smart Living. “These classes are directly accessible by ITS professional lecturers, the faculties of the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Planning (FADP),” explains this Naval Architecture  student.

Not only study in class, but participants will also do a site visit in several places including Kampung Markisa and packaging in Gresik, also some government agencies. “They are expected to see, explore, and mingle with local communities,” Ojan said. Not to forget, the activities of Indonesian culture such as learning the Indonesian language, Saman dance, Silat, and gamelan instrument.

CommTECH Camp Highlight will be held for 14 days from 8-19 July 2019.

Also giving direction, ITS International Relations Director, Dr. Maria Anityasari ST ME said, the duration of the program is-two weeks-too short. Because, according to, Indonesia has many activities and interesting destinations. Bromo is one of them, not only natural beauty but also the uniqueness of culture is in it. “Moreover, when the visit will coincide with the celebration of Hindu people, I see the participants are very excited here,” he said.

One of the participants from Poland, Malgorzata Lodzinska admitted, happy to be able to follow a short program that was held by ITS. This was his first time in Indonesia, although it has long been a holiday plan for Indonesia. “I see the hospitality of the people of Indonesia, hopefully in the future, there will be many interesting and unforgettable experiencees,” he said.
