Work meeting of the Community of University Rector in East Java held at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM)

ITS Campus, ITS News – In order to discuss various issues related to higher education in Indonesia, the Rector and Vice-Rector of 11 State Universities (PTN) in East Java attended the work meeting (Raker) of East Java University Rector Community that took place in Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM), Tuesday (6/8).

The eleven State Universities include the Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM), Universitas Jember (Unej), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” (UPN) East Java, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel (UINSA), Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim, and Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Jember.

Head of East Java University Rector Community, Drs Moh Hasan MSc Ph.D. said, the meeting between the Rector and Vice-Rector of East Java State University is routinely held to discuss important issues that occurred lately. “Certainly the issues related to State University at this time,” said the Rector of Unej.

The meeting also presented representatives of the Government of East Java Province which is represented by the Head of the East Java Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), Dr. H I Gusti Ngurah Indra S Ranuh SH CN Msi, who gave a little description about the current condition of the East Java Province. ” We can know together about the description and overview of the East Java condition as well as we discuss it with what becomes important in the future,” Jelas Moh Hasan.

In his explanation, head of East Java BPSDM explained the current condition of East Java Province related to the poverty level which is still large in several areas and districts or cities. “Besides that, the education quality is also still low,” he explained.

Therefore, he hoped for assistance and input from the leaders of the PTN to East Java Provincial Government. “Maybe the assistance could be the support of scholarships for the underprivileged community or other programs that can support,” he added.

ITS Rector, Prof. Dr. Mochamad Ashari, also contributed his thoughts to the East Java University Rector Community’s Work Meeting at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura

In this case, ITS Rector, Prof Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng revealed, one of the ‘powerful’ action to break the unemployment and high poverty rates in East Java Province is education. “We (ITS, red) already signed the MoU with the Governor of East Java Province and UNUSA for One Pesantren One Product (OPOP),” admitted the rector who is usually called Ashari.

According to Ashari, this is an empowerment program for students, boarding schools, and social communities around. Currently, there are approximately 1,500 boarding schools in East Java are involved and there are some who have shown the results. In this OPOP program, ITS provides support on the Information Technology (IT) platform to bring together producers and consumers. “For now, the program is managed by ITS and UNUSA, but it does not close the possibilities for other universities to join us, we will be very welcome,” said the professor of ITS Electrical Engineering.
