ITS Campus, ITS News – Many students of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) are currently involved directly in the research and production of ITS innovations to anticipate the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia. As a form of appreciation and to help to pass on time, ITS issued a policy so that students who volunteer can be considered as an internship (KP) to fulfill the duty of lectures.

ITS Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Imam Abadi ST. MT explained if it is one of the breakthroughs in the students who have difficulty finding an internship during the current Covid-19 pandemic. “Many companies or industries are temporarily stopping their internship or practice work,” said Imam.

Imam said some activities that students can join to volunteer include making face shields, hand sanitizers, disinfection chambers, ventilators, and many more. “Person In Charge (PIC) of each activity is entitled to determine who and how many students can join with the team,” he said.

Explained Imam, for students who have taken internship courses in this semester, they just contact the department to discuss whether the activity to volunteer can be considered as an internship (KP) or not. As for those who have not taken the course, they can directly contact the departments as well. They can only take the internship in the next semester.

However, Imam insists, if the decision whether the activity to volunteer the Covid-19 ITS could be regarded as an internship is depending on their departments. “It is not all departments can convert the activities (volunteers),” he said.

Because each department will consider whether the activities can fulfill graduates learning achievement (CPL) from the course of internship in the department or not. However, the Imam also ensures that all students directly involved in the handling of the Covid-19, ITS will get a SKEM which is one of the requirements of graduation.

The Lecturers of the Departement of Physics Engineering hoped that the policy could help students fulfill their academic obligations to continue to pass in time despite this pandemic.
