Also proven in the field of taekwondo sports, ITS student won the championship in the Gewinn Malaysia Open International Taekwondo E-Sport Challenge 2020.

Fikri Nurhidayat, a student of the ITS Engineering Physics Department, won third place in the male category of black belt holders aged 18-39 years in the e-sport taekwondo competition organized by Greatest Win (GEWINN) Malaysia.

This student, familiarly called Fikri, managed to beat participants from various countries after recording his taekwondo moves in a video uploaded to his Youtube channel. “We submitted a video demonstrating poomsae taekwondo, then it was judged by the jury,” explained Fikri.

There were several points that participants must include in their videos, namely personal identity, including the level of belt achieved and the origin of the institution. Participants should not forget to include a short introduction in the form of a video and the poomsae that was demonstrated.

In this competition, which has been going on since June, there were several points that serve as the main focuses of assessment. Namely hand and foot movements, stances, and memorization of the moves.

This student who is also part of the ITS Taekwondo Student Activity Unit revealed that he had practiced intensely every day for one month before submitting it. “It was in the form of physical training as well as poomsae techniques that were tackled,” added Fikri.

In his journey towards victory, Fikri had to face several difficulties, such as getting the optimal internet connection and during the process of making and editing videos. “The video uploaded was not in accordance with the organizer’s procedure, so I had to revise it,” he conveyed to the ITS Online reporter.

Not only that, but another problem for Fikri was also where the video can be shot. But with the help of his friends and relatives during the video shooting process, Fikri managed to find a place that was spacious and had adequate lighting.

“Luckily, in the end, we found a good location and we immediately took a video there,” expressed Fikri.

After various obstacles to overcome, Fikri successfully achieved third place, receiving a silver medal. This student of batch 2018 admitted that he was happy with what he achieved, “Alhamdulillah, Allah still gave me the opportunity to make achievements,” stated this bespectacled man happily.

In the future, this man from Jakarta hoped that he can continue improving his abilities in order to achieve various achievements both in the academic and non-academic fields. (rys/id/ory)
