ITS Campus, ITS News – Reaching 60 years of age, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to be committed to improving the quality and quality of its education as a World Class University. This was evidenced by the visitation of the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) assessor team to the ITS campus for accreditation implementation, starting Monday (16/11).

Head of the ITS Quality Assurance Office (KPM), Prof. Dr. Aulia Siti Aisjah explained, in the visitation activities that will be held starting today, a tour of ITS facilities is carried out and interviews with study programs online. This study program includes Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physical Engineering, Materials, and Metallurgical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, and Geophysical Engineering.

Starting with a tour of the facilities, the supporting facilities assessed in this visit include the Language and Culture Unit, Medical Center, Student Advisory Center (SAC), ITS Library, laboratories, ITS sports center, and student dormitories. After the end of the facility tour, interviews were conducted with students of related departments, alumni, lecturers, and department heads by the evaluator team through the Zoom Meeting.

Aulia said, there are already 12 departments at ITS that have received this international accreditation. Among the eight departments evaluated, three of them have recently applied for IABEE accreditation and must undergo a general evaluation. Namely, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Geomatics Engineering, and the Department of Geophysical Engineering. “Meanwhile, the rest of the departments that apply for re-accreditation undergo an interim evaluation to obtain accreditation which is valid for five years,” explained this professor of Engineering Physics.

Aulia continued, the assessment for each study program was seen from the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Thus, each department must adjust learning based on the learning outcomes that have been determined by the IABEE. “So what we see is the suitability of the curriculum with the competence of graduates and how the learning process is so that students achieve these competencies,” she added.

Besides, Aulia gave an example, things that were also seen in the accreditation process included student learning outcomes, as well as student abilities, both soft skills and hard skills. “So we can see the students’ abilities, starting from teamwork, communication skills, student apprenticeship scores, and also lecturer evaluations,” she explained.

Furthermore, according to Aulia, there are four value categories given to the IABEE accreditation. Namely Accept (A), Concern (C), Weakness (W), and Deficiencies (D) for both interim evaluation and general evaluation. “Overall, all engineering departments at ITS have passed category D, and there are still those that are not A, that’s why they re-submitted accreditation,” she added.

When asked about the preparations, Aulia said the preparations were carried out both at the departmental and institute levels. As in previous years, each department prepared supporting documents such as profiles and evaluation sheets. He said the task of the department was heavy because it had to ensure the suitability of graduate competencies following the learning design to get a satisfactory assessment.

Not only that, preparations have been made long ago with internal quality assurance every year. Evaluation and monitoring of the learning process become more controlled so that, it can be used as a reference for improvement.

In the end, Aulia said that almost all engineering study programs at ITS had been IABEE accredited. However, not all accredited study programs have achieved an A grade and have been accredited for a full five years, so further improvement and development are needed. “Even though there are many A’s, Hopes that all majors get an A,” hoped this woman from Magetan.
