ITS Campus, ITS News – Back in the National Unmanned Fast Boat Contest (KKCTBN) 2020 which ended on Saturday (7/11), The Barunastra Team of Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) successfully took home the champion. The first winner in the Autonomous Surface Vehicle Prototype Performance (ASV) category, and the achievement stake in the final stage of the Prototype Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC) Performance category.
In the final of the prestigious national contest held at Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) starting November 5, the Barunastra team sent two teams according to the focus of each category of the competition. The ASV team carries the Nala Final Evo ship and the FERC team with the Nala Sadewa ship.
Before the trip to Malang, the Barunastra ITS team had maximized themselves in shipbuilding. The preparation process for both ships lasted for at least 10’s weeks. “We order the ship according to the design. After the design, the simulation was held and seen the performance on the computer, then we assembled the propulsion of the ship,” said ASV prototype team leader, Muchmirul Yusa.
Preparations did not stop there, and the Barunastra Team also did not miss the free trial session, where the ship was inspecting how it performed when executed. Then done optimization of ship performance. “In this session, both ships seemed to be working well,” Muchmirul continued.
Continuing on the third day of the race, teams were given the challenge to run the ship automatically and complete the mission through a predetermined trajectory in the ASV category. “Within 15 minutes to run, Nala Final Evo was recording to be able to complete the fastest run in 9.23 seconds,” said External Relation Sponsorship of Barunastra ITS team, Fauzan Ichsanul Rahman.
As for the FERC race category, The Nala Sadewa ship directed by the Barunastra team is requiring to compete in a predetermined track. FERC category is a fast boat race with the main power of the engine’s maximum capacity of 32 Cc. “Nala Sadewa herself was recording as being able to complete the fastest run in 28 seconds,” Fauzan said.
As an annual participant of KKCTBN who also participated in last year’s competition, this year is the first time the Barunastra team competed in the FERC category and made it into the top five.
For its performance, Barunastra’s team saw a significant increase in the autonomous ships of the ASV category they built. “From the track that was contesting approximately the same as last year, we managed to get a record time of 9.23 seconds from the previous year, that is still 14 seconds,” added the Student of The Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Winning the title and outstanding achievements did not make Barunastra’s team feel satisfied quickly. They will continue to be dedicating to improving the performance of their ships in the next competition. “We are determined to defend this title and continue to improve our team quality,” concluded the student from Sukoharjo.
The Barunastra team and the other ITS team also managed to get an award at KKCTBN 2020. The Hydromodelling ITS team won third place in the Electric Remote Control race category. The Nawasena ITS team won first place in the KKCTBN poster contest and second place in the ambulance ship innovation design competition and accommodation room redesign competition.
