ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) strives to increase cooperation in the international arena. This time, it was done by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cebu Technological University (CTU) from the Philippines, which was held virtually, Thursday (15/4).
The signing of this memorandum of understanding is the first step for ITS and CTU to work together in terms of developing innovations, patents, and inter-campus activities. In his remarks, ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng said that this collaboration was an extraordinary opportunity for both parties to improve their capabilities and international reputation. “As a first step, we need to collaborate with other universities in the ASEAN region,” said the rector, who is usually called Ashari.
Furthermore, Ashari explained that this cooperation program was a continuation of several collaborative activities that had been previously carried out by ITS and CTU. Therefore, he revealed that this memorandum of understanding could be the basis for carrying out joint exercises with a broader scope in the future.
The same thing was also expressed by CTU Chancellor Rosein A Ancheta Jr ASEAN PE DM Ph.D. According to him, this formal meeting was a historic day for ITS and CTU. This is because the passing of the memorandum of understanding marks the start of mutually beneficial cooperation towards the success of both parties. “This cooperation is not only for the good of the two countries but also for the benefit of the global,” he continued.
Director of the University for ASEAN Integration and Internationalization of CTU Doris O Gascon DA warmly welcomed this collaborative program. According to him, ITS and CTU are two universities that have similarities in technology development and engineering science. “We all prioritize innovation for the benefit of the community while still paying attention to the principles of environmental sustainability,” he explained.
Doris said technology and innovation need to be developed in today’s modern era. According to him, this is necessary to increase the competitiveness of each country amid competitive globalization. Therefore, cooperation like this needs to be done to improve each party’s capabilities and competencies.
The memorandum of understanding covers several things, including support for increasing student and teacher exchange programs, collaboration in making international publications, cooperation in the field of product and innovation development, and cooperation for industrial patents and other areas. As for its implementation, this memorandum of understanding is practical for the next five years.
In the end, with the passing of this memorandum of understanding, Ashari hopes that both ITS and CTU can make a more outstanding contribution to the field of technology development and innovation in their respective countries. “We look forward to exploring more useful activities from this collaboration,” he concluded hopefully.
