ITS Campus, ITS News – A healthy and livable environment is one of the grand plans of the Indonesian nation so that a supporting component is needed for this achievement. Responding to this challenge, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) students designed an environmentally friendly urban vehicle design innovation, the i-Deora, which focuses on the design of the Electric Compact SUV.
As a creative design as an answer to the urban environment’s health problems and the high level of stress due to the hustle and bustle of the urban environment, this idea was initiated by the SACH – MOLINA ITS team. The members include Muhammad Haekal Shafi, Ian Reyhan Junior, Fahreza Aji Taruna, Fikriyubi Fertomo, Rhema Agi Magiza, Muhammad Rumi Latif, Fahri Humaidi, Tengku Rafly Rizqulloh, Riqy Rizqyandra, and Athaariq Ardhiansyah.
Muhammad Haekal Shafi, Team Leader, said that the i-Deora was designed using engineering principles in terms of mechanics, electricity, as well as exterior and interior designs so that the car can become an everyday urban vehicle. “i-Deora can be a vehicle to relieve fatigue on weekends because it is safe and comfortable to use,” said the student who is often called Haekal.
Declared as a solution for Indonesia in 2030 for the environmental problems it faces, the theme of this Electric Compact SUV is a new idea that does not yet exist in Indonesia. “Through this work, we want to make a breakthrough in the world of electric vehicle research in Indonesia,” said the 2017 student.
He is uniting the two sides in terms of engineering and art to work together, the SACH-MOLINA ITS team designs so that the resulting work can be superior from all sides. “This design is carried out in terms of the chassis or frame, body, interior, engine safety, and power control system,” he said.
This Mechanical Engineering Department student continued, i-Deora was designed using V-shape diagram rules. The first stage is the review phase of the existing literature, market needs, to potential ideas. They are followed by planning research on theme design, car models, and engine specifications. Then the design is made starting from the concept, machine, layouts until finally a final design is produced. The whole structure of the i-Deora can be accessed at http://bit.ly/SACH_DEORA_POSTER.
This innovative work has also won 2nd place in the Car Design category at the 2021 PLN Innovation & Competition in Electricity (ICE) event. As shared by Haekal, one of the judges said that the vehicle design in his team’s plan was detailed and comprehensive from all sides. . Furthermore, i-Deora is expected to have entered the realm of industry, not just universities.
Winning a prestigious competition is not the final goal that the ITS SACH-MOLINA team wants. Together with i-Deora, they hope that the work will not just be a pile of design files and calculations. In the future, i-Deora will be realized so that the wider community can feel the benefits. “i-Deora is expected to be a motivation and inspiration for students to produce works of creative electric vehicles for Indonesia,” said Haekal hopefully.
