ITS scoring results on the top three Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities 2021 compared to the other universities in Indonesia

ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember efforts to realize one of its visions to become a World-Class University in Indonesia are getting more momentous. This time, ITS succeed to reach the top three best universities in Indonesia based on the Webometrics Ranking of the Web of Universities for the July 2021 period.

ITS Institute Secretary (SEKITS) Dr. Umi Laili Yuhana SKom MSc explained that Webometrics is one of the credible university ranking standards to measure, determine, and assess advancement or progress in all the best universities or colleges in the world, which is released every six months. As of last January 2021, ITS ranked fourth-best.

Based on this year’s ranking, The successful acquisition of 1.103th  rank globally shows ITS excellence and qualifications internationally. Besides, ITS also ranks the 21st best campus in Southeast Asia. “The (webometrics) assessment calculates the content of the campus website, visibility, and web publications related to citations to the number of external links,” explained the lecturer, who is familiarly called Yuhana.

Yuhana revealed that the results of university rankings according to Webometrics for this period have three aspects of assessment used as references. Those aspects include impact, openness, and excellence.  ITS rapidly rises on the impact aspect from the 903rd rank to 785th. ITS assessed by enriching and updating the publication content of the ITS campus website. In this indicator, website article management is one of the primary keys.

Then, on the openness aspect,  ITS acquires the 1.427th rank. The assessment for the openness aspect is carried out by checking the number of publications from the ITS academic community (civitas academica) cited. “To support this, ITS currently continues to increase the number of publications and citations from the results of activities ranging from research, community service, and student community service activities,” said the woman in hijab.

This ITS Informatics Department lecturer also added that the last aspect for this assessment is excellence.  In this aspect, ITS successfully obtained the 1.741th rank. The review on this aspect is similar to the openness aspect, namely references in education, research, community service, and innovations, especially those that support industrial technology. “In this indicator, an evaluation of the publication of articles indexed by Scimago and Google Scholar is carried out,” she explained.

On the other side, Nurina Azyyati Riski as the ITS website coordinator said that this time, her team is more focused on visibility value (Web Content Impact). Every year, this team has various work programs that must improve those indicators to continue sustainable development. “We must ensure that the content available on the website is up-to-date and user friendly so that the information in the content is conveyed clearly and has a good impact on website users,” explained one of the staff of the ITS Public Communication Unit (UKP).

From various work programs that ITS has implemented, ITS succeed in increasing 145 points compared to the January 2021 period or last semester. The woman familiarly called Zee said that this is the proof that the work program done by the entire website team in the ITS environment has impacted the ranking of institutions. This assessment of web content impact or visibility increases from the main website and from supporting websites or its.ac.id subdomain.

The 1989-born woman expressed her joy for the achievement of ITS in the Webometrics ranking. Achievements in all institutional rankings are the result of the hard work of all elements within the institution. “Hopefully, ITS can maintain and continue to grow and implement ITS Advancing Humanity motto also to innovate for the Indonesian people and the world,” she said hopefully.
