ITS Campus, ITS News – To create an economical and reliable society in managing organic kitchen waste, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) teaches the general public how to make Eco Enzyme solutions. For this reason, training on making Eco Enzyme was held at the ITS Urban Farming garden Wednesday (13/7).
The Chief Executive of the Eco Enzyme Training. Herdayanto Sulistyo Putro SSi MSi revealed that this training was an ITS initiative to utilize the knowledge resources developed on campus to improve the quality of society. For this reason, two lecturers from ITS were also present as presenters in this Eco Enzyme training.
The lecturer, familiarly called Danang, continued that Eco Enzyme can be said to be a versatile solution as the result of fermentation of organic kitchen waste, sugar, and water. Eco Enzyme itself has many benefits, only by sorting organic waste to make it able to reduce global warming.
As for the correct usage guidelines, this solution can clean various things. “This solution can clean furniture, clean floors, wash clothes, and so on,” explained the Chemistry Department lecturer, who also serves as Acting Head of the ITS Smart Eco Campus Development Unit.
As an opening and presenting the material to the participants, ITS Biology lecturer Dr N D Kuswytasari Ssi MSi. He warned of the dangers of the accumulation of organic waste in the Final Disposal Site (TPA), which can cause unpleasant odors and even increase the risk of an explosion at the TPA. So to avoid this, people can sort and process organic waste into Eco Enzyme.
It didn’t stop there, ITS Industrial Mechanical Engineering lecturer Ir Nur Husodo MS was also present as the second speaker. He invited the participants to directly practice how to make Eco Enzyme with the prepared materials and equipment. When following directions, participants seem to be able to follow them smoothly.
This training was also attended by the Eco Enzyme Nusantara Community for the East Java Region and the 2021 Prince Putri Environment Finalists from the Margorejo 1 Public Elementary School Surabaya. “The enthusiasm of the participants was great and they were also encouraged to process their organic kitchen waste at home,” said Danang.
With the implementation of the Eco Enzyme solution training, Danang hopes that participants can sort and utilize their kitchen waste in the form of fruit peels, and vegetable waste to be used as Eco Enzyme. That way, environmental conditions will be better because more and more people are aware of the importance of protecting the environment from waste. “There will be less waste to be transported to the TPA because there is only residual waste,” he concluded.
