ITS Campus, ITS News — Damage to the bridge as a road link can disrupt mobility and disrupt community activities. Trying to provide alternative solutions, two students from the Civil Infrastructure Engineering Department, Vocational Faculty, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) designed the concept of a sturdy suspension bridge called the Arcano Bridge.
Boy Triono Haloho and Moch Dimas Gumilang are members of the Risomas Reborn team. Acting as team leader, Boy Triono Haloho said the initial idea for this design came from his and his colleagues’ concerns about the damage to the Suspension Bridge in Mamasa, West Sulawesi. The team also initiated a more robust Arcano Bridge design with more challenging material specifications to prevent this from happening again. “The design is also futuristic and more unique with local wisdom,” he added.
The boy explained that the Arcano Bridge is a suspension bridge design with a central span of 100 meters; the left and right spans are 15.4 meters each. This student from Medan said that this pedestrian bridge was designed with A36 quality steel and fy 2000 MPa steel cables to ensure its robustness. Regarding architectural aesthetics, the railings of this bridge are decorated with Pa’tedong motifs from South Sulawesi.
Furthermore, this class of 2020 student also revealed that it took two days for the Risomas Reborn team to complete the design, from determining the idea to drawing the bridge design. Boy also explained that the name Arcano comes from Sanskrit, meaning to shine or be admired. This name was given, and the hope was that the Arcano Bridge would be admired by users who passed through it when it was built.
Thanks to this work, Dr Eng Yuyun Tajunnisa ST MT’s team won 2nd place in the People’s Crossing Suspension Bridge Design Concept Contest organized by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) a few days ago. Finally, this Medan 11 Public High School alumnus hopes the Arcano Bridge will be realized and valuable for the public. “From all aspects, we believe this bridge will make it easier for the community,” he said optimistically.
