ITS Campus, ITS News – One of the new challenges in the post-pandemic era is creating a healthy and livable city for the community. In response, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) students designed a revitalization concept in the Kedung Cowek Fisherman’s Village, Surabaya after the Covid-19 pandemic based on Smart Eco-Settlement.

Oki Cahya Saputra as the team leader, said that the concept is a residential layout design that pays attention to environmental quality. The environmental quality in question includes water, soil, and air quality. “Our innovative design concept is a residential area called Gala Tirta Apsara,” explained Oki.

He explained that the Gala Tirta Apsara area aims to manage settlements in the Kedung Cowek Fisherman’s Village, Bulak District, Surabaya to create a healthy and clean lifestyle. “Organized and structured settlement areas indicate livable environments for the community,” said the ITS Regional and Urban Planning Department (PWK) student.

According to Oki, the Gala Tirta Apsara Area concept provides green buildings such as Green Buildings, Green Bus Stops, Open Spaces around settlement, and other facilities that can support local community activities. “This is to create an area that is friendly to the environment,” he said.

Furthermore, he explained that there is a design for an integrated waste disposal site (TPS) and a centralized communal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), so the wastewater produced does not pollute the environment. “On the other hand, there is a Science Techno Park design as an effort to develop qualified and competitive human resources (HR), he said.

Additionally, he stated that to address the issue of overcrowding in the area, they have come up with a solution in the form of a vertical residential design, which they have named Hunikal Apsara. This design includes a range of facilities and utilities that are sufficient and readily available.

Oki revealed that Kedung Cowek is a seacoast area, which presents an opportunity to utilize seawater as a source of energy for electricity. “Using seawater for electricity generation can make the area energy efficient,” he added.

The design, which was developed by members of the GAGS team, including Harits Mediptyan Indrastata and Muhammad Rayhan Ramadhan, under the guidance of Ardy Maulidy Navastara ST MT, has achieved its own success by winning 1st place in the City Design Competition at the Gadjah Mada City Festival 11.0 event, organized by the Department of Architecture and Planning at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) last March.
