Kampus ITS, ITS News – Never dying, the ever-burning spirit of higher education succeeded in making Irfan Eko Sandjaja complete his master’s studies (S2) at the Department of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK) Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). Irfan, who was the oldest graduate at ITS’s 128th Graduation Ceremony, admitted that he was addicted to studying.

Irfan, who graduated at the age of 58 years and 2 months on the first day of the graduation procession, Saturday (16/9), admitted that the enthusiasm for higher education that he felt began when he was studying at the ITS Non-Degree Engineering Faculty (FNGT) of Marine Engineering in 1984. . This thirst for knowledge made him continue his undergraduate education (S1) at the ITS Department of Marine Engineering in 1993. The same thing also motivated him to continue to master’s level. “The more knowledge you gain, the thirstier your curiosity becomes,” said Irfan.

In the midst of current globalization, the man who graduated with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.64 feels that the knowledge he has must continue to be improved in order to be strong enough to compete with the younger generation. Therefore, Irfan is motivated to increase knowledge related to shipping system technology, especially in the hydro laboratory regarding ship and propeller durability.

During his journey, this father of three admitted that he had difficulty attending lectures while having to work. He is required to always be able to manage his time to complete his studies. Apart from that, the age factor is also an obstacle for him in undertaking this master’s education. “However, support from friends and family is an important factor in continuing to maintain the spirit of higher education,” he emphasized.

Irfan also said that the knowledge he learned in his master’s degree was highly correlated with his work as a ship and floating building researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). In his thesis, Irfan raised the title Study of Pitch Distribution Modifications on the B6.40 Mini LNG Carrier Propeller Based on Numerical Methods.

After successfully completing his master’s degree, Irfan will apply the knowledge he has gained to his work, namely in the field of shipping and floating buildings. The man born in 1965 also hopes that the research he has carried out in his master’s degree can help society in developing science and technology in the shipping sector. (ITS Public Relations)
