ITS Campus, ITS News – The academic community of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has once again made a brilliant mark. This time the proud achievement was presented by Latifah Nurahmi ST MSc PhD, lecturer at the ITS Department of Mechanical Engineering who received the Pancasila Achievement Icon Award from the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), last Saturday (9/9).

Latifah said that this award was given to individuals and groups who were outstanding, inspiring and had a positive track record. This year’s Pancasila Achievement Icon Award was given to five names in five categories. “I myself received an award in the field of science and innovation,” she said.

Not without reason, the recipient of the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women In Science 2020 award is the creator of hybrid robots in the medical field. The robot is useful for rehabilitation and assisting with fracture surgery. Having a rotating structure similar to the heel of the foot, makes the hybrid robot move more flexibly compared to previously existing parallel robots.

Furthermore, Latifah revealed that the robot was created not to replace the doctor’s position but to support the medical process. One of the roles of this innovation, which was initiated in 2015, is to help doctors handle operations with high accuracy. “The use of this hybrid robot still requires the intervention of medical personnel,” said this woman who was born in Solo.

Representing ITS for this prestigious award made Latifah’s motivation in the world of research even more passionate. So that the impact can be even wider, this ITS Mechanical Engineering alumnus plans to collaborate with various parties in developing this hybrid robot. Apart from that, Latifah views the Pancasila Achievement Icon Award as concrete proof that ITS supports Pancasila as a state ideology through academic and research activities.

This mother of one stated that this award was presented to her daughter, the students of the ITS Department of Mechanical Engineering, and all women in Indonesia. According to him, this achievement proves that women are able to compete in terms of thinking, research and teaching abilities. “Hopefully it can inspire other women to continue working in the fields of science and technology,” she said hopefully.
