ITS Campus, ITS News – Celebrating its 63rd anniversary, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) proves its commitment to enhancing the quality of education through the attainment of “Unggul–Excellent” Accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) on Wednesday (8/11).
Head of Quality Assurance Office (KPM) at ITS, Prof. Dr. Aulia Siti Aisjah, explained that the accreditation awarded to ITS follows the regulations set by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) implemented since 2020. There are four rankings in this accreditation, namely Unggul (Excellent), Baik Sekali (Very Good), Baik (Good), and Tidak terakreditasi (Not Accredited). The Unggul ranking is the highest among these four.
The accreditation ranking is not granted to ITS without basis. Aulia mentioned that there are at least five aspects considered by BAN-PT for awarding Unggul Accreditation to ITS. “These five aspects are the competence of lecturers, quality assurance system, accreditation of study programs (prodi), lecturer’s works, and satisfaction of stakeholders outside of ITS,” explained the Professor of Physics Engineering.
Aulia explained that one of the criteria for assessing lecturer competence is the education completed by the lecturers. In addition, the alignment of the lecturer’s field of expertise with the study program where they teach is also a consideration in this accreditation.
Furthermore, in terms of quality assurance systems, ITS has followed national standards and supplemented them with international standards. As a result, many students participate in exchange programs, internships, double degree programs with foreign universities, and more. “ITS lecturers also benefit from these international standards through international journal publications and collaborative research with foreign universities,” she added.
Not only that, but ITS’s quality assurance system also monitors the competencies of its students. The goal is to ensure that the skills possessed by ITS graduates align with the learning targets and the needs of companies. “We monitor this every year through assignments, quizzes, mid-semester evaluations, and end-of-semester evaluations,” explained Aulia.
Regarding program accreditation, Aulia revealed that ITS has obtained many national and international accreditations. Examples include international accreditation from Germany, namely the Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics (ASIIN). “There are already 23 study programs at ITS that have obtained ASIIN accreditation,” she said.
Aulia stated that there are many benefits that ITS and its graduates can gain from the Unggul Accreditation from BAN-PT. One of them is the ease that students will experience when applying for jobs in companies or government agencies. “With this accreditation, ITS graduates become more attractive to companies, making it easier for them to pass the interview stage,” said the Magetan-native woman.
In conclusion, Aulia mentioned that achieving this is the result of the hard work of all parties at ITS. Everyone collaborates to make ITS a better university. “Hopefully, in the future, ITS can achieve international-level accreditations and certifications,” she hoped. (ITS Public Relations)
