ITS Campus, ITS News — The Antasena team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has secured funding for a hydrogen motorcycle in the State Electricity Company Innovation and Competition in Electricity (PLN ICE) 2024 program. With this achievement, the energy-efficient vehicle research team, which was founded in 2010, is ready to design its first hydrogen-fueled motorcycle.
Funding Team Leader from Antasena ITS Barra Izzatur Radhi’fan explained, PLN ICE is a funding program organized by PLN Electricity Research and Development Center (Puslitbang). This annual program has three main categories, namely electric kart design, hydrogen motorcycle design, and electricity ideas. “This year our team is participating in the hydrogen motorcycle category, which is also in line with our vision,” he explained.
In addition to the Antasena ITS team, this category was also followed by 21 other teams from various universities in Indonesia. In the selection stage, each team was asked to conduct research and develop innovations in the form of hydrogen-fueled motorbikes. “Until finally our team was chosen to be one of the two teams that passed to the funding stage in this category,” Barra said when explaining the selection process.
In this category, he and his team developed a scooter-type motorcycle that is comfortable for daily use. With a modern retro touch, the motorcycle has a Smart, Safe, and Sustainable concept through various updated features. One of them is Smart Energy Control, which is a system to improve vehicle efficiency by having three modes while riding.
Not only that, the motorcycle with a mileage of 203 kilometers uses the Anodic Recirculation Systemas a system to recycle wasted hydrogen into a source of energy again. Then, this innovation is also equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Realtime Display Mobile with Internet of Things (IoT) features to provide a sense of security to vehicle owners.
Through this funding program, Barra expects her team to be able to develop in accordance with the plans that have been drawn up, so that in the next two years the innovation can be launched. “In addition, collaboration with PLN is also expected to be carried out in the Antasena team’s next research,” said the 2022 ITS Materials and Metallurgy Engineering Department student.
